Post-Treatment

Skin care after treatments is just an important as skin care prior to your treatments. Skin after laser therapy tends to be more fragile and can be injured more easily than normal.

The normal course of healing :

  • Most patients will develop redness or swelling directly after their treatment that will reduce typically in 24 - 48 hours.
  • For at least one week after your treatment, be sure to wear sunscreen of at least 30 SPF or higher on the treated area.
  • Gentle washing of the treated area is acceptable, but take care not to rub or scrub the treated area.
  • Protect the skin from rubbing and abrasions, and avoid contact sports.
  • Avoid any irritating medications or chemicals, particularly on the face
(Examples: Astringents, Benzyl Peroxide, or Retin-A)
  • Do not shave the area for at least 4 days after your treatment.

Usually, around 2 weeks after your first treatment you may experience what seems to be re-growth of hair, but actually is not. This is referred to as shedding, where the hairs release from the root and simply fall out. Utilizing a loofah sponge while showering may help the hairs shed faster from the skin.

Occasionally, some patients may develop crusting on the treated area :

  • If this develops, you may expect a healing period similar to a mild abrasion.
  • Avoid sun exposure to the area while healing. If sun exposure is unavoidable, apply sunscreen of at least 30 SPF to the entire area.
  • Avoid swimming until the area has healed.
  • Do not wear makeup on the area until it is fully healed.
